Join us for an evening with Congressman Jared Huffman, in conversation with accomplished actor and writer Peter Coyote.

Sinclair Lewis is said to have warned: 鈥淲hen fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.鈥 In Huffman鈥檚 new book "No Prophets," the Congressman argues that Christian nationalism is now America鈥檚 most dangerous political movement. He takes a behind-the-scenes look at the extent of Christian nationalism鈥檚 reach in our government and discusses the ongoing fight to defend the separation of church and state.

Drawing on his experiences as a formerly devout Christian and the only Humanist ever to serve in Congress, Huffman maps the Christian nationalist movement鈥檚 largely hidden landscape, showing how America is imperiled by our reluctance to confront threats cloaked in Christianity.

But, he argues, it鈥檚 not too late. If we muster a broad interfaith coalition grounded in shared commitment to democracy, we can reclaim the public square for everyone鈥攔eligious and secular鈥攖o share on equal terms.

Jared Huffman is a Humanist and the only member of Congress to admit he does not believe in gods. He founded the Congressional Freethought Caucus with Congressman Jamie Raskin to promote sound public policy based on reason, science, and moral values. He lives in San Rafael, California.

Peter Coyote is an accomplished actor in more than 160 films; an Emmy
Award-winning narrator of over 200 documentaries and audiobooks; a distinguished writer who has penned two memoirs 鈥 "Sleeping Where I Fall" and "The Rainman鈥檚 Third Cure;" a contributor to numerous books and publications; a politically engaged person, championing a multitude of causes; songwriter, guitarist and singer; Buddhist Priest.
